What is truly groundbreaking about LED technology is that we can now extract a specific wavelength of light from the visible spectrum (the rainbow colors) and emit that frequency (color) with an amazing amount of lumins with very little wattage and heat. And we are now learning how those specific wavelengths can heal our bodies, our skin, and affect our mood and sleep.
Blue light at 465 nm is the best light for SAD’s (Seasonally Affective Disorder). It is particular good for resetting the circadian rhythms of the body. Blue light is believed to affect the pineal gland, the oldest gland in the human body. It evolved in mammals to do one very basic function, very much like an eye, it tells the brain and body that it is light or dark and when dark it opens and is responsible for releasing melatonin. It is recognized as the third eye in Hindu and Buddhist traditions with a red bindi on the forehead. It is appropriately connected to our dream state and often referred to as the back door to the subconscious mind. Blue light provides a nutrient to plant roots and now often used in grow houses.
Another blue (violet) light is emitted at 415 nm. This awesome light penetrates the skin to the depth of a hair follicle. This light is now being used as an effective long term solution to acne, simply because it kills the bacteria that causes acne and surface eruptions on the skin. Less is better with this light, as it is with most light therapies. Using it using once a day, for a minute or minute and half, over the entire face is enough. Using it more will tend to neutralize or be less effective. You can’t get sick by overdosing on any of the visible light therapies.
We sell these lights for $150. You can get more expense devices on line but they are a fraction as effective and you can get cheaper lights that are quite frankly junk toys. Out lights have a 50,000 hour lifetime. That is 8 hours a day for 17 years. And they are excellent to use as ambient mood light on decks and patios – after you see them you will understand why they are so magnificent.
