I have changed my opinion about this issue – we really have two choices – kill a lot of people with military strikes and THEN send in massive medical/biological humanitarian aide or kill a tiny few and send in a massive amount of technological humanitarian aid (smart phones, Obama phones, a smart grid, or even their own communications satellite for gods sake). It takes time but it beats fighting and killing, and we should have been doing it years ago. The world needs the Syrians to work this out among themselves. It is a civil war and we do NOT walk into a civil war with tanks of gasoline – cargo containers full of weapons – and stock piles of conventional weapon systems (that USA taxpayers fund) – for the economic interest of certain people in the USA (halliburton, bechte,l oil co, chemical co, black water corp military, etc etc ie: executives) to immorally enable factions to kill themselves an make even bloodier civil war for the families – BTW we are STILL doing MOSTLY military enabling in Iraq and Afghanistan. And in whose interest do you think that would be in ?? Certainly not our wounded heroes who should be first in humanitarian aid and yet still being denied.
The media makes it all about WHEN are we going to strike. It should be when and who and where do we send HUMANITARIAN aid. Who will ally with us to resolve this ?? We can insist Assad be working to stay in power with four warships off the Syrian coast – not forcing him to FIGHT to stay in power or play like there is only a military response and then think once we do that, it will be resolved. Frankly I would like Senate committees to have Corporate CIA info. The UN should be playing a HUGE roll to get representatives to the table and demand the voice of the PEOPLE be heard – and respond with humanitarian aid.
Access to relevant INFORMATION and the ability to document their plight are what the Syrians and Americans need. There are HUNDREDS of humanitarian solutions that no one even pretends to be recognizing – that is what we need to be talking about – but the press makes it all about the STRIKE – THE KILL.
The only REAL option is humanitarian aide – but the Corp media avoids that subject like the plaque – if we have to send out a couple missiles to save face then we should be prepared to send out MASSIVE and fundamental humanitarian aide to BOTH sides. We have hundreds of options with humanitarian aide – but the problem is not going away by pushing a launch button that results in violent damage to one side or the other. We are a super power – by using just a fraction of the 1.2 Billion we give to Egypt (so they can warehouse a few fighter jets – profiting the 1%) we could make significant change happen with humanitarian aid. But that doesn’t make anyone immediately and dramatically see a rise in stock shareholder value. It is always the right time to do something humane – damaging and punishing does not work – its a CIVIL WAR. HELP THEM – give them access to information and the ability to share it !!
We have to get out of that mind set – we can bomb our way out of the middle east (past 50 years) when our CIA and Corporatacracy are unable to compromise a leader. It didn’t work in Benghazi – it damn sure didn’t work in Iraq and Afghanistan – the only thing that helps is when we reach out to the people who have blood on their hands and HELP. Not like we have the past 50 years. But really the bigger issue is reaching out to the sociopaths and psychopaths who could end the killing by allocating 94% of the planets wealth out of the sick hands of the 1%. Actually it is more like – about 500 people who could turn this civil war on it’s head. But that would mean releasing resources that they greedily embrace.
We should bomb them with Obama phones – book readers – and social media – if the people can tell their story – their life’s changes – probably half the journalists over there work for the CIA or Corporatacracy espionage. The world community can not see anything that is not filtered in layers of manipulation. Otherwise, it goes down as statistical genocide of 120K people and 2 million refugees. We are being hopelessly apathetic about the hundreds of options for humanitarian aid that could actually make a HUGE difference in 6 – 12 months. But – we abdicate ourselves by advocating, essentially more violence. Military strikes will only be good for some egos in this country – who really want to be a bully – then they can say well we tried everything we could think of – and yes behave like a monkey with a hand grenade.
THE BACK STORY
At the very onset of capitalism in England (sometime in the 16th century) the Commons was stolen. In every period of capitalist expansion since then, people’s access to self-sufficiency and to subsistence has been destroyed.
Why? So that dispossessed commoners could be made to work for those claiming the wealth of our planet (land, water, forests, food, labour, fuel etc.) as their own private property. This new ruling class of capitalists has used any violent means necessary to hang onto this stolen wealth and the power it gives them over others. Colonialism has been part and parcel of this expansion of capitalism, as has been patriarchy, poverty, slavery, indentured servitude, and the destruction of our collective environment. The legacy of this centuries-long regime of global capitalism is a world of deep inequalities, gross injustices, intense divisions, perpetual war and environmental devastation that threatens the very existence of our planet itself.
